Qupé is a self professed “Modern Stone Age Winery”. Bob Lindquist our fearless leader is the mastermind behind what we do. Our winery space is shared with our compatriots from Au Bon Climat and located on the historic Bien Nacido vineyard in the heart of the Santa Maria Valley, California. Our first vintage was in 1982, and it was made the hard way. We didn’t come from money, but worked out of love and believe that is still apparent in our wines.
In 2009 we opened our tasting room and have been making new friends ever since. Two other wines, Verdad and Ethan are represented in our tasting room and made in our winery. Verdad is the label of Louisa Lindquist and focuses on Spanish varietals grown in the Santa Barbara county region. Her Tempranillo and Albarino share vineyard space at the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard with some of our Vineyard designate Syrah. Ethan is the brain child of Ethan Lindquist, Bob’s oldest son. Focusing on Rhone varietals (apple and the tree and what not) Ethan has found a unique voice with wines like his very popular Grenache Blanc, and not so Rhone wines like his Sangiovese.
Paige Lindquist is one of our unsung heroes who chose to try and sell all our wine instead of making more. Tasked with running our tasting room and wine club, she bravely forges ahead day after day, making sure that our customers have a venue to try our wines and that club members feel as welcome as family. In addition she is the proud mother of the 3rd generation of Lindquists, raising twin girls who may be trying to give her a heart attack… or maybe it’s Ethan?
At our winery we are supported by Jim Adelman. Take a second to realize that he handles making sure 8+ wine labels successfully make vintages in a building built for 2. He does not sleep, he does not eat, he only organizes and directs the constant orchestra of vino flowing through our music hall.
He is helped out by Enrique, who has been with us 22 vintages. He handles it all. Tractors, fork lifts, barrels and bungs, no matter the challenge he’s up to handle it.
Michael is the financial wiz that keeps investment brokers the world over wondering how do they make a living as a winery? And more curious how does he do it while looking so darn good… We keep making it, and you keep buying it. Thanks!!
Marissa our Enologist makes the lab happen. Buried in beakers and barrels she is half calculator, half measuring cup, and half rubber boots. It’s a lot of halves, but she is a lot of Enologist.
